Ingredients

Vampire Cocktail
  • 2 cups cranberry juice preferably 100% juice
  • 1 cup pomegranate juice 100% juice preferred
  • 0.75 cup vodka plain vodka
  • 0.25 cup orange liqueur such as triple sec
  • 0.25 cup fresh lime juice freshly squeezed
  • ice cubes as needed for shaking and serving
Edible Vampire Blood
  • 3 tbsp seedless raspberry jam smooth and glossy
  • 1 tbsp cranberry juice additional to the cocktail ingredients
Garnishes
  • 8 fresh blackberries 2 per cocktail
  • 4 lime wheels thinly sliced

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or large pitcher
  • Measuring cups or cocktail jigger
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Spoon or small whisk
  • Four lowball cocktail glasses
  • Cocktail strainer

Method

  1. Prepare four clean lowball cocktail glasses. For an extra-cold serving, place the glasses in the refrigerator while preparing the ingredients.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, combine the seedless raspberry jam with 1 tablespoon of cranberry juice. Stir until smooth, glossy, and slightly pourable. Add a few extra drops of cranberry juice if the mixture is too thick.
  3. Using a small spoon, apply the raspberry mixture along the inside rim of each glass. Gently encourage some of the mixture to drip downward, creating irregular edible blood streaks.
  4. In a large pitcher, combine 2 cups cranberry juice, 1 cup pomegranate juice, 3/4 cup vodka, 1/4 cup orange liqueur, and 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice. Stir thoroughly until evenly mixed.
  5. Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness if desired. For immediate serving, shake the cocktail mixture in batches with ice for 10–15 seconds, then strain. Alternatively, refrigerate the pitcher until thoroughly chilled.
  6. Fill each raspberry-decorated glass with fresh ice cubes. Carefully pour the chilled cocktail mixture over the ice, leaving a little room for garnishes.
  7. Garnish each cocktail with two fresh blackberries and one thin lime wheel. Position the garnishes so the raspberry blood drips remain visible.
  8. Serve immediately while cold. For the best appearance, decorate the glasses shortly before serving and avoid allowing the finished drinks to sit with melting ice.

Notes

For best results, use chilled ingredients and transparent glassware to highlight the natural blood-red color. The raspberry decoration should be thick enough to cling to the glass while still forming slow drips. For a sweeter cocktail, add a little simple syrup to taste. For a nonalcoholic version, replace the vodka and orange liqueur with 3/4 cup additional cranberry juice and 1/4 cup orange juice. The cocktail base can be prepared up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerated. Add ice and garnishes immediately before serving. Do not add dry ice to drinks intended for consumption. Nutrition values are approximate per cocktail and depend on the juice and liqueur brands used. Contains alcohol; intended for adults of legal drinking age.
